Hello, we received a message from PayPal inviting us to update our system because we are not in compliance with the following:

IPN Verification Postback to HTTPS - The ipnpb.paypal.com and ipnpb.sandbox.paypal.com endpoints accept only HTTPS connections. If you currently use www.paypal.com , you should move to ipnpb.paypal.com when you update your code to use HTTPS.

Actually we have DT register 3.2.0 on our site which is Joomla 3.7.0;
What do we need to do? Do we have to upgrade to your last version or also do we need something more?

Do I need absolutly PHP7 or may I use PHP 5.6?

Kind regards,
Matt

Hello. You do need to update to the latest DT Register. You should do that anyway.

Also, you'll need to setup a SSL certificate for your domain. This is a new requirement by PayPal... something that used to be optional.

PHP 5.6 is fine, but 7 would be recommended.

Hello,
is it not completly clear if the SSL certificate is now optional or not.

Actually the site is hosted on Siteground that offer the "Let's encrypt SSL" option, a free SSL certificate. In case we must apply SSL, as per your experience, can Let's Encrypt SSL solve the issue?

Thanks in advance

I am not familiar with Siteground's SSL options. You'd have to ask them. However, the message you received from PayPal is what everyone else has received. The SSL certificate IS now required for IPN functionality.
